Georga and Raymond Sutton have been breeding American Quarter Horses in South Dakota since the 1960s, earning the AQHA Legacy Award – given for 50 consecutive years of breeding – in 2001. Raymond was an international judge and a national director from 1985 until his death in 2005. Georga was elected an AQHA director in 2005, serving on the international and Hall of Fame selection committees. She was named an honorary vice president in 2013. The Suttons also worked actively in the South Dakota Quarter Horse Association. The Suttons’ annual horse production sale is thought to be the oldest consecutive sale in the world, with 2018 marking the sale’s 67th anniversary.

Our goal is horses with superior dispositions, intelligence, conformation, and ability. We strive to produce horses that excel in looks and can perform in a number of disciplines.

With constant breed improvement being the foremost goal at Raymond Sutton Ranch, Georga and daughter Heather Sutton, DVM, have continued with that in mind. In addition to induction into the AQHA Hall of Fame, the Raymond Sutton Ranch has also been recipient of the prestigious AQHA Legacy Award. In 2016, they registered their 2,726th foal. As an AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeder, all horses in the Raymond Sutton Ranch production sale are eligible for nomination to Ranching Heritage Challenges.

It is the Raymond Sutton Ranch philosophy that a controlled bloodline-breeding program makes dominant breeders with distinctive carry-on breeding ability. Foals run in hundreds of acres on river pastures until the sale. They are strong, fit, and agile. The natural conditions allow the foals to develop bone structure, heart and lungs, and the muscular system which can can greatly increase the young horse’s chances of long term superior performance.
